Supremes Gowns Going On Display In England
Former Supremes singer Mary Wilson says she's "delighted" the group's stage costumes are now overseas. The BBC Online says the exhibit "The Story of the Supremes from the Mary Wilson Collection" is slated to go on a UK tour, with displays set for London, Blackpool, Birmingham, and Bristol, England. The exhibit includes some of the first gowns Wilson, Diana Ross, and Florence Ballard purchased for shows, dating back to their pre-Supremes days as the Primettes. The beaded dresses the ladies wore when they met Britain's Queen Mother 40 years ago will also be showcased. "The Story of the Supremes from the Mary Wilson Collection" traveling exhibit is in conjunction with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, where Wilson opened the gown display "Reflections: The Mary Wilson Supreme Legacy Collection" back in 2004. The exhibit has also been shown in several U.S cities, including New York; and Austin, Texas; and the group's hometown of Detroit. "The Story of the Supremes from the Mary Wilson Collection" will open at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London today.
