Project Runway Season 5 Episode 2 By: Amy Vedder |
| |
Well another week and another new episode of Project Runway. At stake in this competition was not immunity from elimination in the next challenge, but rather the opportunity to sell the garment that they designed on BlueFly.com. This week the runway went green. Not with color but with green “earth friendly” fabrics. The surprise? that the models got to choose the fabrics that the designers had to use.
The winner by a landslide was Suede. He really had an outstanding garment, although I have to admit, I’m not sure how Blue Fly is going to mass produce that garment. All the hands of all the children in China aren’t going to be able to make that garment in an affordable way, but I digress.
The loser, and not surprisingly, Wesley. It was easy to see Wesley’s inexperience in the last challenge, but this week’s effort really proved that he just wasn’t ready for this competition. Perhaps he’s really a lot better than what we got to see of him in this competition, but based on the garment he produced, it’s no surprise that he got the Auf.
The guest judge for the night was appropriately Natalie Portman. She was the perfect choice to help judge garments that were designed specifically for younger women.
And all hats off again to the producers of Project Runway for not making the episode about Portman. With that kind of star power, the episode could have been really watered down, but once again the show delivered. Rather than get a one hour star power show, the fans again got exactly what they wanted, one full hour of talented designers pushing the limits of their creative ability.
So that’s two down and thirteen to go. Who will win it all? I still just can’t tell. But one thing is for sure. This season is getting off to a great start and it looks as though it will be as good as any season yet. I’m already looking forward to next week.
