It’s Time for Joe Lieberman to be Removed from the Democratic Conference By: Carol Dunn |
| |
Let’s have a long overdue discussion about Joe Lieberman. Joe had always been a good Democrat and a advocate and a fighter for civil rights, so when the party tried to push him out of his seat, it was no wonder that his constituents stood up for him, reelecting him as an independent. But Joe failed, and continues to fail to recognize that the pass he got in 2004 has expired and his continual support of Bush/McCain has made him despised by the very people who voted to keep him in office.
The problem isn’t that he supports an unending war in the Middle East, it’s that he doesn’t recognize his constituents, and the country’s desire to bring a close to that unending war. His people voted to keep him in officer despite the fact that they disagreed with his stand on the war, and he has thanked those people by, not representing their interest, but by turning his back on their concerns and desires for a new direction for the country.
Now Joe says he’d like to speak at the Republican Convention. Would Democrats welcome Trent Lott to speak at their convention? No, of course not. Why? because Lott is diametrically opposed to Democratic ideology. So why would Republicans welcome Joe to their convention? Isn’t he still a Democrat at heart? Outside of the war, isn’t his ideological outlook the same democratic outlook than he always had?
Apparently not considering Joe’s support of Bush’s warrant less wiretapping and the Patriot Act, two policies that have gone way beyond any honest desire to keep America safe.
So the real question now is why is he still a member of the Democratic Conference? Some would say, it’s Lieberman’s association that keeps Democrats in the majority, but I would argue that the next election will make that irrelevant.
Joe has turned his back on his constituents and the American people as a whole with his support for the war and future wars in the Middle East, and he no longer represents the people who chose to elect him.
Hay Harry Reid, it’s time to show Joe the door. Lieberman speaking at the Republican Convention is going too far.
