Money Getting Tight? Try These Cash Saving Suggestions

Money Getting TightIf you’re feeling a serious pinch by the rising costs of gasoline, food and other necessities, you’re not alone. There are a lot of us in the same boat, and the proof is in the numbers.

March 2008 saw the largest decline in driving in US history, and pick-your-own farms are reporting the largest increase in business ever, why? Because people need to save money like never before and there willing to change their behavior to do it.

If you’re looking to stretch your dollars, consider the following:

  • Gasoline. Like it or not, our society is based on the automobile. And although we are driving less, there is a point that all of us will reach in which we just can’t drive less. But before that point you should be eliminating unnecessary trips. Make sure your using the bicycle for short trips and stopping at the store on the way home from work rather than making a special trip. If you’re not in a car pool, organize one. And then there is the speed you travel. Dropping your highway speed from 75mph to 55mph will net you a fuel savings of around twenty percent.

  • Food. Unless you’re old like me, you probably have never heard the term, victory garden, but you should get familiar with this old idea. For what ever reason, individuals and families just haven’t been growing food like they used to, a trend that seems to be turning around. As the cost of food continues to go up, more and more people are turning to their own backyards to plant and grow the foods they love to eat. Tag team this up with a rain water reclamation system and you have a virtually free source of food. If you’re not the green thumb type, consider just planting perennial fruits and vegetables like strawberries and sugar peas. They don’t take much attention and come back every year without additional planting.

And these are just the tip of the iceberg. More and more websites like www.hillbillyhousewife.com that are dedicated to sharing money saving tips are appearing on the internet everyday. Spend a little time and do some research and you’ll be sure to find some tips that fit into your life and save you a few dollars.
