Reverend Wright may tank the Obama Campaign.

wright2All the media is still a buzz over the controversial preacher Reverend Jeremiah Wright who had been the pastor at the church Barack Obama has attended for over twenty years. His “God Damn America” quote seems to have been endlessly looped on the cable news channels since it first emerged several weeks ago.

But before I get into that I think I need to express something about myself. I was raised as a Christian, but have not attended church in a long, long time. Although, if the preacher at my church had delivered even half the intensity and thought provoking sermons that Wright was delivering, my fanny would have been in the pew every Sunday.

Now with that, I can not ignore how this issue is going to cost Obama big time. The comments of people like Wright fly right into the face of the neo-nationalism that seems to dominate the mindset of a lot of Americans these days.

But for the record, 9/11 was blowback from our foreign policy. The number one motive for murder is self defense, not hating someone else’s freedom. In addition, his belief about ADIS is also not without historical precedence.

The one silver lining about Wright is that he is expressing a belief system that is held by many Americans who have a justifiable belief that their Government doesn’t and hasn’t been acting on their behalf. Wright at the very least is getting it out there and exposing an ignorant public to a view point that has never had a national mouthpiece.

The down side for Obama is that the public is too uneducated about the policies of the US Government to understand where someone like Wright might be coming from. Not to mention the active nationalism propaganda campaign that seems only to serve confusing the American people from knowing what is true and what is false. Combine that with a news media that no longer does its job and you have a perfect storm.

Wright is very likely to take out Obama at the knees, but he very well might get people talking about subjects that they have never dared to contemplate. It’s just too bad that Obama has to pay the price. It seems unlikely we will get someone who could build the bridge between viewpoints separating Americans, as Obama could. Yes he could, yes he could, yes he could.
