No you don’t have a cold, you probably have Hay Fever!

fever2Spring is here, and if you’re one on the many million Americans who suffer from Hay Fever, you’re all too aware of what the change of season brings. Depending on where you live the hay fever season will vary some, but the worst of the season is late spring and summer.

Hay fever is the allergic reaction to pollen. Symptoms of hay fever range from runny nose and eyes to sneezing and in some cases to extreme irritability.

Regardless of the particular trigger, hair, dust, pollen, there are several things you can try that can give you some relief from the summer time blues.

Increase your intake of fruits and vegetables. You should increase your intake of fiber in general, but definitely try to eat more fruits and vegetables, local grown or organic.

Stay away from caffeine and chocolate. Sorry.

Dairy products, junk food and soda pop are also out.

No tobacco.

Change your clothes when you come in from outside and wash your hand and face often. Also wipe your hair throughout the day. Pollen can stick to your hair maximizing your exposure.

If you’re not already on a vitamin regiment, try introducing vitamins B complex, C, and vitamin A, into your diet. In addition many people also experience success with the herbs Goldenseal, Alfalfa, and Horehound.

If you find you still suffer from symptoms in your house and in the work place, try running an air purifier.

Hay fever isn’t any fun. The relentless symptoms are enough to drive the sufferer mad. But by making a few simple changes to your diet and habits, you can get some degree of relief. Cleanliness and good eating habits certainly rank the highest on the list, but a good vitamin regiment and herbal supplements are known to help many people.

If you suffer from hay fever, it’s a good bet you’re already getting ready for another sickly season, but if you have questions about exactly what your suffering from, don’t hesitate to contact your doctor and to be tested for allergies, at the very least you’ll know what you’re fighting.
