In an age where a broken family is the norm, and violence among kids is on the rise, it is now more important than ever that family values are instilled in our youth, as they are the future.
There are a number of ways to go about teaching family values. Most families will agree that probably the most important thing that a family can do is spend time together. This "family togetherness" is a great concept, however it is often easier said than done.
Generally speaking, when children are younger family activity is less difficult. It is when they approach their teen years that this becomes somewhat of a challenge. As children approach the teenage years, they are simply busier with sports, school, and their social lives. Also, in many cases, hanging out with the family becomes "uncool."
This is where parents need to get clever in creating family events. For example, if your kids like sports, how about a family outing to a ball game. It is the parent's responsibility to compromise with the kids in an effort to create a family gathering that everyone enjoys.
Another popular way to spend time together as a family is at dinner. Unfortunately, with many crazy schedules, families find it more difficult to eat together every night. What you can do is choose a night each week where the entire family has supper together. A special meal offers even more incentive for everyone to participate. Though this may not sound like a big deal, it is very important in the structure of a family.
So no matter how you go about it, remember this - family activities are essential to the upbringing of your kids. As parents, you will benefit from it as well. For years, it has been proven, that quality time together is instrumental in the development of a happy family.
